Harriett Brown-Patmore-Kimmel, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at her home.
She was born December 31, 1931, in Akron, New York.She graduated Valedictorian at Akron High School.Upon high school graduation, her first job was in production at Lockport Union Sun and Journal in New York.She was stranded in Evansville on February 2, 1951, due to record-breaking cold (minus- 23).She visited the local newspaper, The Evansville Printing Corporation, which became the Evansville Courier (Scripps Howard), and worked there for 46 years until her retirement in May, 1996, as a Professional Proofreader.Shortly after her second marriage in 1969, her neighborhood became upset over a school board matter.This prompted her to activism and launched a year-long lawsuit against segregation in the school system.She got Federal Judge Hugh S.
