As it appeals a 2002 judgment that nears $76 million, Massey Energy Co. has also asked the state Supreme Court to consider whittling down the amount by $20 million.

With the justices scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday in the coal contract dispute, Massey wants four years and two days deducted from the time during which interest has been applied toward the 2002 jury verdict.
