The dispute also calls into question the role of the LCDRC. Member Robert Romero says he's upset the Commission ignored LCDRC's recommendations. "There's frustration," he says. "Our concerns were allegedly heard, but they didn't look at the community plan." Commissioner [Jack Sullivan], who voted against the variance, says the County needs to listen to the LCDRC. "This is part of a sensitive neighborhood, we almost always rely on the LCDRC for what they recommend," he says. "I'm not understanding the differences between these two cases [[Dominic Vigil]'s roofing and [John Cordova]'s impound yard]. It's not an appropriate use."
The case is in Commissioner Michael Anaya's district. While he voted against Vigil's roofing business, he's all for Cordova's variance. He disagrees with Sullivan, saying the towing service and impound yard qualify as a home occupation. "This man couldn't afford a piece of land elsewhere," Anaya says. "It's not a done deal yet, I gotta see the whole plan and hear from the residents." He says the difference between the two cases is that adjacent neighbors were opposed to the roofing business, but not Cordova's towing business.No Place Like Home; Bcc Approves Home Business Despite Recommendations
