Passaic County Freeholder Clerk Charles Thomas withdrew from the race for county clerk on Friday amid an investigation into his role in reassigning a county car that subsequently was involved in a hit- and-run accident Sunday.
The county prosecutor is investigating the incident, in which an employee of the juvenile detention center crashed a car previously assigned to the Freeholder Board. Republican Freeholders Mike Mecca and Walter Porter have asked County Counsel Bill Pascrell III to summon Thomas and Delores Ferguson, director of the youth detention center, to answer questions about the incident.County Clerk Candidate Quits Race in Hit-Run Flap ; Assigned Car That Struck, Injured Woman
