Colorado State, US, passed a juvenile gun-control bill and established a new penal system for serious juvenile offenders in Sep 1993. Under 18 year olds possessing a gun will be jailed instantly for at least 5 days. First-time offenders could be imprisoned for up to a year and fined $1,000. Continued offenses carry a sentence of up to 3 years and a $100,000 fine. Parents or adults who provide guns to juveniles face 6 years imprisonment and a $500,000 fine. The new penal system called the Youthful Offender System means that 14 year olds onwards will be placed in a prison, managed by adult corrections.
