Sheriff Michael F. Sheahan of Cook County recognized the importance of cellular phones especially to seniors. Sheahan started The Sheriff's Cell Phones for Senior's program to provide seniors with a free cellular telephone to keep with them at all times, giving them access to 911 emergency service. And in July, he began a countywide program seeking donations of used cellular telephones as there are many senior citizens who cannot afford to have this communication device due to their limited budgets. Hutchinson details this program that could prove to be a lifesaver for an at-risk senior citizen.
