Because of a reporter's error, the vote on 1999 mountaintop removal legislation by Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., was incorrectly stated in Wednesday's Gazette. The 56-33 Senate vote approved Byrd's effort to overturn a federal court ruling to limit mountaintop removal. But, the measure eventually failed to become law because it was not then approved by the House of Representatives.
