"The mayor continues to play politics with the Chicago police department. If he is serious about police officers' behavior being monitored and corrected, the best method he can send is to correct the mess that was created under the Jon Burge reign of torture, which occurred during [Richard M. Daley]'s watch as well. We have no confidence in the mayor or the chair of the Police and Fire Committee, Aid. (Isaac) Carothers (29th). Justice is long overdue. The citizens of Chicago deserve justice at this point," [Pat Hill] added

"This really won't be the final word from the mayor," [Michael Pfleger] said. "We interviewed a lot people for this position. The three people or so that we are presenting to (Daley) will be those who we think the people of Chicago will find acceptable as very strong and competent."

"I think that whoever comes in as the OPS administrator will have some type of advisory board that will ensure a transparent process," Pfleger continued. "I think if we get a very qualified person, it becomes just like the city's (Inspector General) David Hoffrnan. He's been very good, very tough and very independent. But since if s a city position, the IG has to answer to someone. So he reports to the mayor."
