"Critical Mass isn't an organization," says [Morgan Ress]. "It's an idea - that we ride with each other."

Because of the group's amorphous nature, "it doesn't fall on any one person's shoulders" to organize, says Jessi Berkelhammer of East Liberty, who helped revive the group in 2001 and participated in the group's court-strategy session. "It would be great if there is more solidarity."

"It would be pretty cool to give it as much enthusiasm as we did before," [Leeana Ninness] says. "At first we [were] all so together fighting it." Now, "it's everybody for themselves."
