It's been six years since the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. axed elementary school instrumental music programs as part of large- scale budget cuts.

The absence is noticeable to middle and high school band directors, who point out decreased participation in band as well as the ongoing use of old rental instruments that need to be replaced.
