"We've been discussing this issue since the spring," Sharon Dixon, a coordinator for the 24th Ward, told the Chicago Defender. "And now we have a lot of politicians and community groups on board to get people ready to exercise their right to vote and make changes they want."

"This campaign will begin on the West Side in the 24th Ward at noon with a press conference of federal and state elected officials, local community leaders and clergy, labor and community organizations," he said. "The IVRVC has identified approximately 10,000 unregistered voters in the 24th Ward that they want to add to the 35,500 voters who are already registered."

"We have run the current Chicago voter registration list up against other lists to determine specifically who the unregistered are," said Jackson. "Deputy registrars will not be standing in front of supermarkets and asking people if they are registered to vote. They will have the specific name, address and in many instances the phone number of the unregistered voter on a walk sheet and we will be going door-to-door to register those we have specifically identified as being unregistered."
