Summary:

Federal criminal trials have nearly tripled since U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Michael J. Sullivan took office in 2001 and toed a hard line in the sand against making deals with perps.

At the end of September, Sullivan's office had tried 61 cases in fiscal year 2005 compared to 24 in fiscal year 2001 under his predecessor Donald K. Stern - a 154 percent increase.
