For [Ray Guillemette Jr.], the contest is part of an Elvis act that has matured. He is now 40 and portrays Elvis from the early '50s to the jumpsuit era. While learning to use his artificial leg, he incorporated cooking and performing as Elvis.
Guillemette won nine Elvis tribute artist contests between 1993 and 2001. He usually portrayed the early hip-swiveling "Elvis the Pelvis." Then, two months after a drunken driver crashed into the back of his motorcycle in 2001, Guillemette's hip-swiveling days appeared to be over. He agreed to amputation of his mangled left leg just above the knee.Guillemette will be one of 20 of the best Elvis acts in the land, finalists in the contest that Elvis Presley Enterprises established three years ago. It has become one of the biggest attractions of Elvis tribute week and helps guarantee Memphis will be bursting at the seams with jumpsuits as Graceland pays homage to Elvis on the 32nd anniversary of his death.Finalists to Compete in Elvis Tribute Contest
