NOVEMBER 5, 2007SPEAKER: SEN. HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON, D-N.Y.IOWA STATE SENATOR ROB HOGG[*] HOGG: Good morning. Good morning, everyone. I'm Rob Hogg, state senator for Senate District 19 in Northeast and Southeast Cedar Rapids, and it's my pleasure to introduce and welcome our speaker today to Clipper Windpower. It is especially an honor for me to introduce Senator Clinton today in this facility, because in so many ways Clipper Windpower and the companies like it, working in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency, are the solution -- the solution to the loss of manufacturing jobs here in America, the solution to our dependence on foreign energy, and the solution to the increasingly urgent problem of global warming and climate change. At some level we all know Senator Clinton, but the great thing about the Iowa caucuses is that we Iowans don't just rely on what we see on television. We take advantage of the opportunity we have to meet candidates in person, and my family and I have been impressed by Hillary Clinton's warmth, her intelligence, her charm and her sincere concern for us as individuals, for our families, our country, and our world. (APPLAUSE) We know that for more than three decades Hillary Clinton has been standing up for the values and causes that affect America's families. After law school she turned higher paying jobs to go to work for the Children's Defense Fund, and as first lady of Arkansas, she worked to improve the quality of education in their schools. In the early 1990s Hillary Clinton raised America's conscience as the nation's leading advocate for universal health care. Her work opened the door to legislation which resulted in health insurance for six million American children, including tens of thousands of children right here in Iowa through our Hawkeye program.
