Occupancy rates for Boston and Cambridge hotels rebounded in July compared to last year's numbers, but revenue per available hotel room continued to take a hit thanks to discounting to spur demand.

The average hotel occupancy rate rose to 85.8 percent from the 83.5 percent recorded in July 2008, while the average daily room price dropped 11.6 percent to $187.46, according to figures released this week by Pinnacle Advisory Group.
