When I read an article regarding providing laptop computers to all students in Maine from seventh through 12th grades, I automatically became wary of another well-meant but misguided concept of a better education for our youth. Technology certainly must remain prevalent in our education system but will computer science and technology provide the basic fundamentals of morality and good judgment? Will reading and arithmetic go the way of the dinosaur?
True, we cannot expect our school systems to be the substitute for what once was the foundation of sound character - the family. The ideals on which we focus today are self-satisfying and if one listens and heeds media moguls and greedy corporate logos we are convinced that this is the avenue to pursue.Laptops, at What Price?
