"I don't know how he does it," Springfield Councilman Richard Toone said. "I don't know how you can get up that early, stay at meetings until midnight and still get as much done as Bill has. I don't know how he puts in so much time. It's amazing."

"When they first bought that drafty farm, it didn't have any indoor plumbing," Toone recalled. "Now it's a beautiful farm and it's more of a showplace that he is very proud of."

"New Jersey will be wishing it had preserved more farmland years from now," [William Pettit] said. "That's what I'm proudest of. Once farmland is preserved, it can never be developed."
