As Ringwood residents press their lawsuit against the Ford Motor Co., the state is struggling with the complexities of its own case against the automaker.

Three months after former Gov. Richard Codey vowed to sue Ford for dumping massive quantities of industrial waste in the borough, the state is still gathering information about the contamination. It has yet to decide whether to seek damages for the harm the pollution may have done to the state's parks, hiking trails or the water supply.
