CANNES, France - A skittish and shaking Michelle Williams stepped out on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, her first official public foray since the death of her ex, actor Heath Ledger, in January.

Dressed in a 1930s-style gold dress with a blond bob, Williams appeared at the premiere of the low-budget "Wendy and Lucy," and hours later met the press to flog Charlie Kaufman's flick "Synecdoche, New York."
