The state Assembly approved a bill Feb. 9 that would delay the requirement because of "the state's critical economic situation and lack of appropriate technology." The state Senate has yet to vote on that measure.

She said if the Senate does not approve postponing the requirement by the school budget election in April, paper ballots again would have to be used. "Everybody is hoping it passes," [Joanne Nyikita] said.

"The biggest concern is security for the ballots once they're tabulated," he said.
