Q2 PRINT AD SALES DOWN 10.2%, ON-LINE SALES UP 19.3% July numbers don't look good either; real estate continues to drop.
Newspapers continued to be battered by the unprecedented downturn in ad spending in the second quarter, as confirmed by Friday's release of overall industry spending in the second quarter by the Newspaper Association of America, which it said was down 8.6 percent, to $11.3 billion, when compared to last year. Print spending, the Arlington, Va.-based trade group said, was down 10.2 percent, to $10.5 billion.
The industry association led with the fact that ad spending on newspaper web sites was up 19.3 percent in the quarter, to $796 million, pointing to the fact that the increase was "the 13th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth for on-line newspaper advertising spending since NAA started reporting on-line ad spending in 2004."
