REDLANDS - Sept. 11 is a very personal occasion for members of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Eight years ago, church member Linda Sheppard's daughter, Melissa Rose Barnes, was killed in the attack on the Pentagon. Pastor Lonnie Wiggins was in Manhattan on vacation and could not leave the city. Another church member, Tony Farrar Sr., lost his 20-year-old son, Army Spc. Tony Jr., in a bombing in Iraq in 2007.Redlands Church has Personal Ties to Sept. 11
"I don't know what we would have done without those people," Sheppard said of church members who showed up on her doorstep on Sept. 11, 2001. "They were very good to us - they always have been."
