Rights Of Residence Safeguarded For UK Citizens Residing In Luxembourg

In the session that took place on Thursday 28th March 2019, Luxembourg Parliament (chambre des députés) has voted new provisions applicable upon Brexit which will guarantee the right of residence and work of UK citizens and their family members currently residing in Luxembourg.

In case the draft Withdrawal Agreement enters into effect, Luxembourg has opted that UK citizens must apply for residency documents within 3 months after the end of the transition period, i.e. after 31st December 2020. In accordance with the Withdrawal Agreement, UK citizens will remain EU citizens until the end of the transition period.

In case of "Hard Brexit" former registration with the municipality will entitle UK citizens and their family members (who received a residence permit (carte de séjour) in case they are third country nationals) to stay in Luxembourg for a duration of one year starting on...
