Six Things That Can Get You Arrested In Oman

The new Oman Penal Code, promulgated by the Royal Decree 7/2018, came into effect recently with new punishments for various offences. To start you off, here are 6 things you'll need to watch out for:

Firstly, in accordance with Oman's new penal code institutions or individuals accused of producing, manufacturing, and storing rotten food could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of OMR10,000. The term can be increased to 15 years in case of a death.

Secondly, a person will face imprisonment varying 3 months to 3 years for intentionally disseminating false news, rumors at home or abroad that will undermine the prestige of the state or hurt confidence in financial markets and affect the financial position.

Thirdly, three to 10 years jail for anyone transgressing against God, prophets, the Holy Quran, the Islamic religion or other heavenly religions. Fourthly, A person who intentionally tries to disrupt the passage of ambulance or public security vehicles will face no less than 7 years imprisonment.

Fifthly, the new Omani penal code as well stipulates imprisonment for a period of not less than 10 days, and not exceeding six months, a fine of not less than OMR100, and not exceeding OMR500...
