Colorado Springs opens its newest fire station today in a district that handles the sixth-highest number of calls in the nation.
The crew at Station 8, previously at Chelton and Airport roads, ran on 5,800 calls last year. Only engine companies in San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles County; the city of Los Angeles; and New York City made higher numbers of runs, according to the July 2006 issue of Fire House Magazine, which reported statistics gathered in 2005.New Fire Station Opens Today in Busy District ; Only 5 U.S. Areas Handle More Calls Than Airport Road Station
