"A festival on Skid Row may seem terribly out of place until you realize it is home to thousands of poor, battered and struggling people," said [Andy Bales], URM CEO. "At Union Rescue Mission, we want to make our Thanksgiving festival a day of feasting, fellowship and fun for homeless kids, families, men and women."

There are many programs available at the Union Rescue Mission, (URM), from emergency programs, Pepperdine and UCLA/USC clinics; women's programs; children's programs; family programs; men's programs, along with the Get Involved.

Union Rescue Mission is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless. Established in 1891, URM is one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. It provides a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services, including food, shelter, clothing, medical, and dental care, Christian recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training to needy men, women, children and families. The festival will be staffed with more than 300 volunteers who are expected to serve more than 3,000 homeless men, women and children with the fried turkeys along with: * 240 Oven roasted turkeys * 152 Deep fried turkeys * 540 Pounds of stuffing * 300 Pounds of cranberry sauce * 1,260 Pounds of yams * 1,080 Pounds of green beans * 100 Gallons of gravy * 700 Pounds of salad * 3,000 Rolls with butter * 100 Gallons of ice cream * 3,000 Slices of chocolate cake Accompanying the volunteers that morning will be city attorney Rocky Delgadillo.
