Passive voice condones abuse?
In "Loving Hispanic woman is a state agency's ideal" (Page A-1, May 13), Sonia Lopez, deputy director at the Hispanic Information Center, said that "parents get frustrated ... and sometimes kids get mistreated."Your Views
She added that "we would like to strengthen families, help create unity, so that there's less frustration and children are less likely to be abused."
Although I certainly agree that it is important to identify and address the root elements of abusive behavior, I am concerned about Lopez's use of the passive voice. It would have been more direct for her to say, "Parents get frustrated ... and sometimes they hurt t...Try vLex for FREE for 3 days
