Community Renewables Sector Boost

Speaking at the Royal Highland Show over the weekend, Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead has announced a feasibility study being undertaken on behalf of the Scottish Government, looking at financing options for community renewables projects.

With the lack of available funding being identified as a "major stumbling block" for landowners, farmers, local business and communities who wish to develop and own renewable energy projects, the study will consider the feasibility of establishing a loan fund for such projects. The study will be carried out by the Scottish Agricultural College in conjunction with Community Energy Scotland, and a report is expected in three months.
