El DNI digital es el único Documento Nacional de Identidad válido

La Resolución RENAPER N° 1740/2016 prorrogó la fecha límite del canje obligatorio de todos los documentos de identidad de confección manual por el nuevo DNI digital, para el día 31 de marzo de 2016.
Desde el 1 de abril solo tiene validez el documento tarjeta y las libretas celestes, que en su interior, tienen los datos digitalizados. Los únicos exceptuados de actualizar su documento son los mayores de 75 años y los incapacitados judicialmente.
