Bimbo Group In The Acquisition Of The 100% Of Alimentos Nutrabien

Carey has helped Mexican bakery conglomerate Bimbo acquire Chilean counterpart Nutra Bien from food and drinks company CCU, less than three months after it boughtUS-based East Balt Bakeries in a US$650 million deal.

Bofill Mir & Alvarez Jana Abogados advised CCU. Claro & Cía also advised the sellers on antitrust matters.

The deal was signed on 15 June and the antitrust regulator opened the investigation on 8 September.

Nutra Bien produces bakery products, such as packaged biscuits and cakes. Its purchase by Bimbo shows Mexican appetite for companies outside of their home jurisdiction. Besides Bimbo's recent East Balt Bakeries merger, Sigma, the country's biggest meat producer, bought Peruvian dairy producer Supemsa in July. Infrastructure conglomerate Grupo Mexico has also been busy. It entered the US market through the acquisition of Florida East Coast Railway earlier this year.
