Govt to buy 1.5 lakh tonne rice from India.

Banglsdesh Wednesday cleared a purchase order for importing 1.5-lakh metric tonnes of rice from India as the domestic market remained wayward for reasons deemed not logical. Under a government-to-government or G-to- G deal, okayed in principle, the government will procure one-lakh metric tonnes of non- basmati rice and another 50,000 metric tonnes of atap rice "on urgent basis", officials said. The approval came from the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs this year, held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair. Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said that such quantity of rice would be procured by the Directorate-General of Food on G-to- G basis from the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED)...
