Lobatse to host Mountain Bike Challenge

Lobatse, which has turned into a home of motorsport events, will host the first Mountain Bike Challenge on October 17.

The extravaganza, which also includes a family fun day and after party, is expected to attract 200 cyclists from Botswana and beyond. The challenge is sponsored by Lobatse Town Council and Spin City Events while the timing and registration are handled by renowned cycling event gurus Ultimate Cycle Base.

Addressing a press conference in Gaborone on October 8, the event organiser, Joseph Khengere of Spin City Events said they had an allegiance to Lobatse and they chose to go with the scenic town.

"Lobatse is a mountainous town and it is the perfect terrain for such events," he said. He said their intention is to set standard highs and to bring excitement and family fellowship hence the family fun day and after party.

Khengere said all participants must be ready as road markings have already been done. He noted that the terrain will vary from long gravel straights, twists and turns, rocks as well as uphills. "There will be at least four road crossings where people can watch the action," he said.
