More reasons to sing incumbents' success in power sector.

Alongside ensuring availability of electricity quality assurance in management and distribution is deemed imperative. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, in this regard, has said that there is no alternative to increasing efficiency in power sector. Moreover, he gave stress on implementing steps, taken by the ministry, for modernisation of the transmission and distribution system, something crucial for improved customer service. According to media reports, he came up with the statements at a programme held on Monday marking the submission of the probe report by an investigation committee formed earlier over 132/33Kv grid sub-station, Kumargaon, Sylhet, fire incident that took place on November 17, 2020. The state minister has also said that the pace of power-related works cannot be slowed down under any circumstances during the Covid- 19 pandemic. All this, needless to say, yet again betrays the commitment of the government in general and the state minister in particular to common people when it comes to ensuring access to quality power supply for all, something pledged by the incumbents in their election manifesto in particular. One can recall here that, just the other day, the state minister came up with a disclosure that the country would achieve the target of access to electricity for all by December this year. He said that all the areas of the country will come under electricity grid network by the time while the off-grid areas will get electricity through solar home system. According to the available statistics at the Power Division, more than 98 percent areas of the country have already been under grid system. The country's present installed power -generation capacity is 23,548 megawatts through 139 power plants while the highest available generation is 12,893 megawatts. The Power Division data show that the transmission capacity has increased to 12,379 circuit-line kilometres while the distribution line has been enhanced to 588,000 kilometres.
