La nacionalización en la región centroamericana

Las diversas legislaciones en la región centroamericana han determinado la posibilidad de que un extranjero obtenga la nacionalidad mediante un procedimiento administrativo ante la autoridad migratoria y que se logra, normalmente, por residir en un país centroamericano por un determinado período. De igual forma, los países del CA-4 reconocen la posibilidad de doble e incluso múltiples nacionalidades.
La permanencia en el país por un determinado período es una condición fundamental para obtener la nacionalidad. Sin embargo, existen otros requisitos más comunes para obtenerla:
- Renunciar a su nacionalidad de origen (con excepción de algunos países).
- Examen al solicitante para demostrar que escribe y habla español.
- Examen cívico para verificar que el extranjero conoce de historia y geografía del país en que solicita la nacionalidad.
- Que tenga recursos económicos suficientes para subsistir en el país.
- Certificado de antecedentes penales.
- Certificado de nacimiento del solicitante.
Los países de la región también han reconocido situaciones especiales para obtener la nacionalidad, entre los que destacamos:
- Extranjero que se casa con un nacional, en base a las restricciones de cada país.
- Extranjeros de España, Iberoamérica y Centroamérica, en base a los parámetros que determina la legislación.
- Extranjeros que hayan realizado inversiones en el país.
- Extranjeros menores de edad que recibieron la nacionalidad por extensión, ya que a su padre o madre se le ha naturalizado conforme la ley. En dicho caso, si el extranjero desea mantener la nacionalidad obtenida por extensión deberá de ratificarla al cumplir la mayoría de edad.
Toda persona interesada en obtener la nacionalidad deberá solicitarla formalmente ante la autoridad competente, adjuntando a dicha solicitud todos los requisitos establecidos por la ley migratoria. El proceso de aprobación es largo y variado entre los países de la región, pero normalmente toma de 9 meses a 3 años, y posteriormente el naturalizado deberá de obtener los documentos de identidad correspondientes.
Finalmente, a pesar de que las autoridades otorguen al extranjero la nacionalidad solicitada, el naturalizado puede perder la nacionalidad por los siguientes motivos:
