Banglsdesh daily corona cases maintained a downturn with the latest rate dropping to the lowest 4.23 precent but death rate rising in a situation that warrants improving curative hospital treatments. Meanwhile, medics think that vaccination in hotspot cities like Dhaka, Chattogram, Narayanganj and Gazipur first can yield 'herd immunity' in Bangladesh against the coronavirus as rural areas seem safe all through the pandemic invasion. Some medical experts agreed on this idea as the country continued to record low incidence of the viral transmission with the latest rate dropping below a 'tolerable' five-percent level, at 4.33 percent on Sunday. "It's a good idea...I'll pursue it," said former health minister Prof Dr Ruhal Haque MP, now chairman of the parliamentary standing commiittee on the ministry, as the suggestion for vaccination in these cities only in the first phase came while the government plans nationwide drive. Health department's regular reports reveal the corona infections and deaths concentrated on these cities and surroundings. The country has recorded 569 new cases of the coronavirus in a daily count, taking the tally of infections so far to 527,632. The death toll climbed to 7,906 with a higher count of 23 fatalities registered in the 24 hours to 8 am Sunday, according to data released by the government's health department. Another 681 patients recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the total to 472,437. A total of 13,446 samples were tested at 199 authorised labs across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 4.23 percent. The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 89.54 percent while the mortality rate leapt to 1.50 percent. Globally, over 94.52 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 2.02 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
